The team behind the judicial inquiry took another step today to gather evidence for the hearings in April.

According to an update posted online today, the inquiry has now sent out summons to people who are likely to be called as witnesses during part one of the public hearings beginning April 15.

The notice on the website states issuing a summons is a legal process, and some people who receive a summons may not be required to testify.

Some witnesses may be asked for written testimony, and, as the inquiry proceeds some witnesses may no longer be required to give evidence.

The judicial inquiry, lead by Justice Frank Marrocco with inquiry counsel let by Janet Leiper, was requested by a council vote in 2018 to review the sale of 50 per cent of the town’s utilities (COLLUS) to Powerstream in 2012, and the subsequent council decisions to spend the proceeds from the sale on two fabric membrane structures that now house Central Park Arena and the Centennial Aquatic Centre.

Public hearings will take place from April 15 to 18, April 22 to 25, April 29 to May 3, May 13-17 and May 21-24.

The policy phase hearings are expected to take place on June 10, 11, and 12. Hearings will take place in the town hall council chambers with times to be announced closer to the date. The meetings will be live-streamed online.
