Grey County council pay almost $700,000 in 2023

The total bill for Grey County council pay, benefits and expenses came to almost $700,000 in 2023.

At its meeting on March 28, county council released its annual remuneration report that details the full expenses of all members of county council. The report was presented as part of council’s consent agenda and no comments were made on its contents.

Grey County council cost a total of $691,001.66 in remuneration, benefits and other expenses (conferences, cellular and technology allowances, parking and meals). Remuneration paid to council was $492,292.36, benefits totalled $74,195.44 and other was $124,513.86.

Members of council attended 545 regular meetings and 485 other meetings. A total of 25 meetings were missed.

A total of 25 names appeared on the report. Grey County council consists of the 18 mayors and deputy mayors from the nine member municipalities. Each local council also appoints an alternative member to attend county council meetings in the event a regular member is going to be absent.

Warden Brian Milne was the highest compensated member of county council. Milne received a total of $82,254.96 in remuneration, $14,281.78 in benefits and $27,814.99 in other. Milne attended 30 regular meetings, 186 other meetings and missed a single meeting.

  • Peter Bordignon (The Blue Mountains Deputy Mayor): $21,889.74, $3,564.49 and $577.08
  • Sue Carleton (Georgian Bluffs Mayor): $25,175.60, $4,252.28 and $7,893.77
  • Warren Dickert (Hanover Deputy Mayor): $24,038.18, $4,260.84 and $9,103.71
  • Barbara Dobreen (Southgate Deputy Mayor): $24,501.56, $4,343.10 and $8,278.82
  • Kevin Eccles (West Grey Mayor): $24,375.19, $1,832.07 and $6,362.73
  • Scott Greig (Owen Sound Deputy Mayor): $23,490.53, $3,920.61 and $5,550.04
  • Paula Hope (The Blue Mountains alternate): $337.01, $6.57 and $0.00
  • Doug Hutchinson (West Grey alternate): $210.63, $5.02 and $46.80
  • Tom Hutchinson (West Grey Deputy Mayor): $24,880.71, $4,289.84 and $6,490.42

Grey Highlands Deputy Mayor Dane Nielsen also received a total of $5,747.20 in remuneration and expenses from his county appointment to the Niagara Escarpment Commission.
