Among this year's inductees into the Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) Black and Gold Society is Jay Morrill, a championship runner and track athlete.

The Black and Gold Society started in 1998 as a way to recognize graduates who had exceptional high school athletic careers and went on to achieve great things in sports after high school. The society also honours those who have worked to pioneer and build CCI athletics in their careers as athletes, coaches and teachers at CCI.

While attending CCI, Morrill won nine Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) championships in cross-country running and track and field. He won two Ontario Federation of Secondary Schools Association (OFSAA) golds and one silver medal. Morrill won 46 of 52 races he entered for CCI and was a two-time national champion.

Morrill went to Georgia State University on a full athletic scholarship and was Atlantic Conference freshman of the year and first team all-conference in 2004. He placed first in the Georgia State Invitational 2017, was a four-time winner of the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) Division One regional championship qualifier, and was the top finisher for Georgia State at the Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference runs from 2006 to 2008. He was captain of the Georgia State University cross-country and track teams from 2006 to 2008.

Morrill, 10 other athletes, and three builders will be inducted into the Black and Gold Society during a ceremony on Sept. 21 as part of the CCI 160th anniversary reunion.
