Among this year's inductees into the Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) Black and Gold Society is Andrea Bevan, who played hockey for the national women’s team.

The Black and Gold Society started in 1998 as a way to recognize graduates who had exceptional high school athletic careers and went on to achieve great things in sport after high school. The society also honours those who have worked to pioneer and build CCI athletics in their careers as athletes, coaches and teachers at CCI.

Bevan was on the roster for the National Women’s under-22 hockey team for the European Air Canada Cup in Germany in 2008.

While attending CCI, she went to Georgian Bay Secondary School Association Championships as part of the school soccer and basketball team and was a leader for the CCI women’s inaugural hockey team. She was junior and senior athlete of the year and went on to play hockey at Wilfrid Laurier University for the Golden Hawks. She and her team won five Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championships and was Laurier athlete of the year twice. She was inducted into the Laurier Hall of Fame in 2014, was the OUA player of the year, and a Canadian Interuniversity Sport and OUA all-star. She won a gold medal in the first International University Sports Federation (FISU) games in Harbin, China and was a gold medalist in the European Cup. She completed a BA and B.Ed and coached hockey at a university level while teaching high school. She currently lives in Russia with her family while her husband continues a career with the KHL.

Bevan, 10 other athletes, and three builders will be inducted into the Black and Gold Society during a ceremony on Sept. 21 as part of the CCI 160th anniversary reunion.
