LETTER: Government spending needs to 'get real'

I totally agree with Vince's letter about the homeless.

The thing that gets me is that it's more important for the town to build some arch over the main street when that money could be used to help people in need.

It's really time for our municipalities and government to get realistic with where they are spending money.

Yes, it's great to have tourists and to live in a sought-after area, but the people who have lived here most of their lives are suffering because they can't afford homes, or rent, or even put food on the table because the cost of living here is so high.

This community once prospered from the hard-working people in the shipyards and factories that were here. Now the majority of the jobs in the area are minimum wage paying jobs, so how can people survive on this?
