Farmers' markets in the area are grappling with the decision of whether to open this month

Thanks to Linda Flemington for sending in this photo of part of the new mural going up along Huron Street near the corner of Heritage Drive. This mural is being completed by four artists - each working consecutively – and was commissioned by Collingwood’s parks, recreation, and culture department. Contributed photo

Farmers' markets in the area are split on their decisions to open amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Collingwood announced opening day is postponed and possibly won't open at all in 2020, and Thornbury and Flesherton markets are opening this month.

Ontario has reported 511 new cases of COVID-19 today as well as 565 recoveries and 55 deaths.

There was one new case of COVID-19 confirmed in The Blue Mountains yesterday, bringing the total for TBM to four confirmed cases.

There were five more deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Simcoe County since Wednesday, including two more patients at Bradford Valley Care Centre.

There have been eight cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Collingwood residents (plus one who has since left the region). Of those, seven have recovered. There are also eight cases confirmed in Wasaga Beach with four recoveries and one death. A new case was discovered in Clearview this week, bringing the township's total to three cases with two recoveries and one patient hospitalized.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit does not provide updates to the COVID-19 cases on the weekends.

Over the next two weeks, SMDHU will be testing every resident and staff member working at the 29 long-term care facilities in the region. This means testing 3,550 residents and 4,520 staff.

Simcoe County paramedics will be helping the local health unit perform COVID-19 tests on every resident in long-term care facilities in the county.

A local woman has created a model for pandemic-era food drives and she's hoping for more people to organize their own drives under the umbrella of One Collingwood.

Today's photo was taken by a reader of one of the artists working on a new mural along Huron Street being painted on the construction shoring. You can find out more about the mural here.

Today's essential worker of the day is Jeremy Churchley.

We are running low on submissions for the essential worker of the day feature, but we're pretty sure there are more people out there deserving of recognition. CollingwoodToday would like your help in recognizing local essential workers from health care workers, physicians, cashiers and delivery drivers. If you'd like to say thanks to someone you know, please send a photo, their name, their job title, and your words of thanks to [email protected]. Please only send photos and information with permission.
