Two more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Wasaga Beach residents today – both women in their 60s.

Grey Bruce Health Unit confirmed the first COVID-19 case in The Blue Mountains.  Until April 24 at 3:30 p.m. there had been no cases confirmed in The Blue Mountains.

In total, there have been 259 residents of the Simcoe Muskoka Region confirmed positive for COVID-19. Of those, 137 have recovered, 70 are self-isolating, 28 are in isolation at a long-term care centre, eight people are hospitalized and 15 people have died.

Of those, seven were reported in Collingwood and all have recovered.

In the province, there were 424 new cases confirmed this morning, 57 deaths, and 525 recoveries.

Premier Doug Ford unveiled Ontario's "reopening" strategy this afternoon. You can find out more about the province's plan to re-open businesses and places in Ontario here.

Collingwood council has a meeting tonight at 5 p.m. You can watch the live stream on Rogers TV, or online here. Some of the agenda items include an update from the mayor on the economic support and recovery task force, and an overview of the Collingwood Economic Action Plan.

As the pandemic stretches on, the needs in the community continue to rise. If you have a need that is not a medical emergency, you can call 211 to be connected with a number of services from financial to social to mental and even to volunteers who have signed up to be part of a new database started by the town.

The Barbara Weider House youth shelter had to alter its annual Bowls for Beds fundraiser and is hoping to still raise $24,000 through the sale of the bowls while also observing physical distancing rules in place. You can buy a bowl designed and created by local students for $100 ($89 tax receipt) and the bowl will be delivered.

The Barbara Weider House uses the funds to support local youth at risk of homelessness. To buy a bowl call Deb Piggott at 705-888-3636 or email [email protected].

Today's essential worker of the day is Christopher Mather.

CollingwoodToday would like your help in recognizing local essential workers from health care workers, physicians, cashiers and delivery drivers. If you'd like to say thanks to someone you know, please send a photo, their name, their job title, and your words of thanks to [email protected]. Please only send photos and information with permission.
