Two new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Wasaga Beach

An 80-year-old man in Barrie has also contracted the virus as a result of a long-term care outbreak

Two more long-term care residents in Simcoe County have contracted COVID-19. 

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit website, a Barrie man in his 80s and a Bradford West Gwillimbury woman in her 70s have both contracted the virus due to outbreaks. 

It’s unclear which long-term care home the Barrie man is from. There are currently three outbreaks at Barrie long-term care homes including Woods Park, IOOF, and Owen Hill Care Community. Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for the region is scheduled to provide an update today at 3:30 p.m.

There is one outbreak in Bradford at Bradford Valley Care Community. 

There have been 24 more cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the region since Friday, and now posted to the health unit website. 

There are nine more cases in Barrie (in addition to the long-term care resident) including a man in his 20s, a woman in her 50s, a man in his 40s, a man in his teens, a man in his 50s, woman in her teens, a woman in her 30s, a man in his 30s, and a man in his 50s. The cases are all close contact or community-acquired. 

There have also been two new cases confirmed in Wasaga Beach, both women in their 60s. One is a community transmission and the other is deemed close contact.

In addition to the long-term care resident, there were four more cases confirmed in Bradford West Gwillimbury residents. 

In total, there have been 259 residents of the Simcoe Muskoka Region confirmed positive for COVID-19. Of those, 137 have recovered, 70 are self-isolating, 28 are in isolation at a long-term care centre, eight people are hospitalized and 15 people have died. 

The case breakdown by community (including those who have died or recovered) is as follows:

Bradford W-G (67 cases, 23 recoveries, 7 deaths), Barrie (76 cases, 39 recoveries, 2 deaths), New Tecumseth (18 cases, 14 recoveries), Orillia (12 cases, 8 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (7 cases, all recovered), Innisfil (19 cases, 6 recoveries), Springwater (5 cases, 4 recoveries), Midland (5 cases, 4 recoveries), Wasaga Beach (8 cases, 3 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 1 death), Adjala-Tosorontio (6 cases, 3 recoveries), Clearview (2 cases, all recovered), Essa (5 cases, 2 recoveries), Ramara (2 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (2 cases, all recovered), Penetanguishene (2 cases, all recovered) for a total of 241 cases in Simcoe County, including 123 recoveries.

There are also 17 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 14 have recovered.

In the region, there have been 88 cases attributed to community transmission, 63 to close contact, and 53 to travel.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe Muskoka region is 41.9 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 99.9 cases per 100,000 population.
