The Town of The Blue Mountains has agreed to enter into a contract with the Georgian Triangle Humane Society for pound keeper services.
The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) will be responsible for the care and shelter of dogs under the custody of the Town as a result of running at large, surrendered by an individual other than the owner, or removed from a home as a result of a pet owner being in contravention of municipal by-laws.
“This agreement with the Georgian Triangle Humane Society will allow our staff to pick up lost and stray dogs found at large,” says Debbie Young, Interim Manager of By-law and Licensing. “The Georgian Triangle Humane Society is a convenient location for our officers and will ensure that dogs receive the care that they need while being reunited with their owners.”
Since November 2022, the Town has been without a contract for the care and boarding of dogs and as a result, has not been able to pick up any dogs at large that have been reported. At the meeting on July 10, 2023, Council voted to proceed to enter into the contract with the Georgian Triangle Humane Society to ensure that the Town can provide the service for the community. The Town of The Blue Mountains reminds the public that all dogs must be licensed. The licensing requirement applies to all residents, including those staying full-time or seasonally in the community. For licensing information, visit the Town website.
