For those who may be missing the sights, sounds and tastes of the Blue Mountain Village during the COVID-19 shutdown, the Village is providing a virtual at-home experience.

“Although we can’t physically be together right now we’re excited to continue providing live concerts and family programming through Instagram and Facebook,” says Pattie Kendall, director of marketing and events for the Blue Mountain Village Association.

The Blue Mountain Village has launched a number of online initiatives as a way to connect with the public during the COVID-19 shutdown, including Après at Home events, Family Fridays and Iwa Spa yoga sessions.

On Friday the Village is offering a Family Friday program, featuring local entertainer, Tyler Boyle. And, on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m., the Village will be welcoming family-favourite, Fred Penner who will be taking over Facebook Live for a musical family event.

“This may be our new normal for a while, so expect to see more local artists you know and love as well as several favourite indie artists to be announced shortly,” Kendall says.

The majority of Blue Mountain Village businesses closed on March 17, as per the provincial orders.

The Blue Mountain Resort suspended operations on March 15, closing all lift operations, base lodges, attractions and rental services.

"The majority of our stores and food service operations have closed for the time being with a small number open to serve guests who are staying on resort or in the community,” said Tara Lovell, manager of public relations for Blue Mountains Resort.

Kendall adds that there is more to come in the way of Blue Mountain Village at-home.

“May is music month at Blue Mountain Village, virtually that is. We’re celebrating the best of our Indie alumni curated in a new Spotify playlist called Indie at Blue,” she says. “The sounds that would normally fill the Village Events Plaza are now available for your listening pleasure, we hope you enjoy.”

Some of the local Village business owners have also taken to the digital world to stay connected with their clientele during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Blue Mountain resident and Tholos Restaurant owner Peggy Vomvolakis and her daughter Anna Sofia, captured themselves cooking up a Tholos favourite at home and shared it online for others who may be interested in trying it out in their own kitchen.

The Firehall at Blue Mountain Village is also encouraging the public to engage online with a pizza pageant contest.

Kick-off your Blue Mountain Village at-home experience tonight by following along with Après at-home at 6 p.m., while cooking up a little pasta by Peggy.
