The total number of town employees on the list dropped by one from 2022.

By provincial legislation (Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996), the town is required to disclose to the Ministry of Finance the names, positions, salaries and taxable benefits of all employees paid $100,000 more during the year. According to the government of Ontario website used for Sunshine List disclosure, the Canadian consumer price index (CPI) has increased by 76.7 per cent from 1996 to 2023.

In 2023, there were 300,570 records on the sunshine list. If the original threshold established in 1996 followed inflation, the size of the 2023 list would have been reduced by 92 per cent, to 22,754 records.

Based on purchasing power, a salary of $100,000 in 2023 is equivalent to $56,588 in 1996.
