Six new case of COVID-19 reported in the Blue Mountains today

The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting 18 new cases of COVID-19 in the region in the past 24 hours. 

The 18 new cases are located in the Blue Mountains (6), Owen Sound (4), Huron Kinloss (3), West Grey (1), South Bruce Peninsula (1), Kincardine (1), Hanover (1), Arran Elderslie (1).

The health unit has reported a total of 898 cases in the region to date, noting that one previously reported case has been transferred to another health unit in Ontario and three cases have been referred into the GBHU to the Blue Mountains (2) and Huron Kinloss (1).

There are 72 active cases in both counties combined, and the health unit is currently tracking 352 high-risk contacts associated with the active cases.

Active cases in Grey County are currently located in Owen Sound (11), Southgate (2), Grey Highlands (2), the Town of The Blue Mountains (22), Hanover (5), Chatsworth (2) and Georgian Bluffs (1).   

GBHU is also reporting the region has had a total of 71 cases of Variants of Concern (VOC), 18 of which are active. 

There have been four deaths due to COVID-19 in Grey and Bruce combined, and there are currently two individuals being hospitalized due to the virus - one locally and one outside of Grey-Bruce.   

Today the health unit confirmed the outbreak at the Owen Sound Hospital that was initially reported on March 19 has now been resolved. 

Of GBHU’s 898 cumulative cases, 822 cases are resolved.

Resolved COVID-19 cases in Grey County include: Owen Sound (138), Southgate (107), Grey Highlands (75), West Grey (49), Blue Mountains (66), Hanover (49), Meaford (26), Georgian Bluffs (10), Chatsworth (17). 

To-date the health unit has administered 36,028 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. 

This week, GBHU has received 5,980 doses, which will be focusing on vaccine distribution to clients 60 years and older, First Nation communities and First Nation clients, and retirement home staff, residents and essential caregivers (second dose).
