Osler Bluff Ski Club giving easement for Bruce Trail

The piece of land is located on ski club property near the Petun Conservation Area

It is clear sailing for Osler Bluff Ski Club’s plans to donate a small piece of land to the Bruce Trail.

There were no concerns or objections to the plan raised at a public meeting held by The Blue Mountains council on Aug. 29. The plan, if approved by council, would see the ski club convey a 795-square-metre easement to the Bruce Trail Conservancy for the optimum trail route and for conservation purposes.

The tiny piece of land is located on ski club property near the Petun Conservation Area.

Town planner Nicole Schroder told council once the easement was in place it would provide a permanent connection for the trail in the area.

“This is good news,” said Coun. June Porter.

Antoin Diamond, from Bruce Trail Conservancy, spoke briefly to council to support the proposal.

“Thank you for helping us secure the Bruce Trail corridor,” she said.

Jamie Cuthbert represented the ski club at the meeting.

“Osler Bluff Ski Club has been a long-time partner with the Bruce Trail organization and the Bruce Trail Conservancy,” he said. “We’re very pleased to help the Bruce Trail Conservancy. We hope everything goes through successfully.”

Coun. Gail Ardiel praised both organizations for working together to improve the community.

“This is a good news story. Thank you to the ski club for getting on board with the Conservancy. We should have more of this,” she said.

Schroder said a staff report would come to a future council meeting with a recommendation on the proposal.
