The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting one new COVID case in the last 24 hours, which is located in The Town of The Blue Mountains (TBM).

According to the health unit, there are 47 active cases in the region, and another 105 active high-risk contacts.

Active cases in Grey County are located in: Owen Sound (22), Southgate (2), The Blue Mountains (9), Meaford (3), Georgian Bluffs (1).

The health unit is also currently working with Kelso Villa Retirement Home in Owen Sound to address a COVID-19 outbreak that currently consists of six cases - one staff member and six residents.

According to Dr. Ian Arra, medical officer of health for GBHU all six individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“None of the cases has severe COVID-19 disease; all mild symptoms,” stated Arra in a news release. “Factoring in the transmissibility of the Delta variant, this could have been much worse. If no one was vaccinated, it is most likely all 108 residents would have been infected by now.”

He noted that the vaccine levels in the home is at 95 per cent for residents.

“The risk of severe disease and hospitalization in the residents who are fully vaccinated has significantly diminished,” Arra added.

Six people from Grey Bruce are currently being hospitalized with COVID-19.

To date, the health unit has reported 2,183 cases in Grey-Bruce with 2,113 recoveries and 11 deaths.

As of today's situation update, approximately 61.4 per cent of the total population of Grey-Bruce (including children) have been vaccinated with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
