Lorraine O’Halloran is running for Grey Highlands council to serve the community and help local seniors.
“I am very passionate about our seniors. They need places to go that are local and have activities for them to access. Having senior parents in our community has allowed me to see the lack of help and directly available. Needing to travel for specialists in Owen Sound, Barrie, Toronto, London and Newmarket is so exhausting. The supports we do have are wonderful, but they’re just not enough,” she said. “We need more people to help keep our seniors at home. The cost of assisted living is outrageous, we need to find a better way. I have some ideas and if elected we can work on this.”
O’Halloran is an early childhood educator and she ran her own daycare in Dundalk for 10 years before selling the business. For the past 18 years, she has been working for the Bluewater District School Board as an educational assistant.
“I truly love being an educator whether it's for preschoolers or high schoolers. I love crafts of all kinds, swimming, the outdoors, good movies and spending time with family and friends,” she said.
She is running for council because she feels it’s time for change in Grey Highlands.
“I've chosen to run for council in hopes of being part of the change we need here in Grey Highlands,” she said.
She is committed to ensuring Grey Highlands continues to be a great place to live, work and play
“Another key point for me is to preserve, protect and enhance the beautiful place we call home,” she said.
O’Halloran said she understands there will be a learning curve on council and she promises to remain genuine and authentic.
“I know I have lots to learn, but I'm willing to accept the challenge. I'll be honest to the people. If I don't know, that's OK because I will find out and report back to you,” she said. “I will work hard and support my community and I will not pretend to be someone I'm not. If I can help you I will.”
