COVID-19 outbreak declared at Thornbury long-term care home

The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) has confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 in Meaford since Friday.

On Saturday, GBHU also declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Errinrung, the long-term care (LTC) facility located in Thornbury in the Town of the Blue Mountains (TBM).

The current cumulative total in the region is now 139, with six active cases.

Despite the outbreak status at the LTC home in Thornbury, TBM’s cumulative case count remains at eight.

However, the case count in the neighbouring town of Meaford continues to increase.

Since Sept. 24, Meaford has seen at least one new case of COVID-19 a day. Meaford has now seen a total of 11 cases of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic.

On Saturday, GBHU also reported one of the new cases steamed from a healthcare worker. Of the 139 cumulative cases in GBHU, 29 have been reported in health care workers.

There are currently no active outbreaks in any daycares or schools in GBHU.

GBHU continues to be one of the only health units in Ontario to have no deaths as a result of COVID-19.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Grey County included - Owen Sound (56); Southgate (16); Meaford (11); West Grey (9); Blue Mountains (8); Grey Highlands (6); Georgian Bluffs (2); Hanover (2); Chatsworth (1). Bruce County has had 28 confirmed cases.
