Wasaga Beach man facing drug and weapons charges after vehicle stop

Accused was charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine

PARRY SOUND - On Dec. 9, 2021 at approximately 2 a.m., members from the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol in the Town of Parry Sound. Police stopped a vehicle and initiated an investigation.

As a result of further investigation, Jonathan Cyr, 30 years old of Wasaga Beach, Ont. was charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon, contrary to Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) CC
  • Possession of break in instruments, contrary to Section 351(1) CC
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance - Cocaine, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to Section 4(1) CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance, contrary to Section 4(1) CDSA
  • Have care or control of a motor vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, contrary to Section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to Section 42(1)(a) of the Liquor Licence Act
  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to Section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on Feb. 3, 2022.
