Two face 47 charges after police seize $135K in stolen goods

Blue Mountains, Thornbury residents arrested following string of property crimes across the region

A multi-jurisdictional property crime investigation has resulted in multiple arrests and a large recovery of suspected stolen property.

At the beginning of April, members from the Grey Bruce Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) began investigating a string of property crimes that spanned across several counties and areas of jurisdiction.

As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP CSCU and Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged the following individuals.

Jackson Watson, 28 years of age from Thornbury, has been charged with:
    •    Breach of firearms regulation
    •    Conspiracy to commit indictable offence
    •    Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
    •    Mischief under $5,000
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (10 counts)
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    Theft (four counts)
    •    Theft of motor vehicle (seven counts)
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

Brent Wonnenberg, 51 years of age from The Blue Mountains, has been charged with:
    •    Breach of firearms regulation
    •    Conspiracy to commit indictable offence
    •    Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (nine counts)
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    Theft (three counts)
    •    Theft of motor vehicle (five counts)
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

As a result of this investigation, officers from both the Grey Bruce OPP and Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS) recovered approximately $135,550 worth of suspected stolen property.

Members from the Community Street Crime Unit will be contacting owners of the stolen property as they are identified. Please do not call the Grey Bruce OPP to inquire if items belong to you.
