Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have suspended two driver's licences and issued a criminal charge within only minutes of each other at a RIDE spot check within Springwater Township.

On Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at approximately 8:05 p.m., a vehicle was stopped where officers determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was subsequently administered a roadside test resulting in his driver's licence being suspended for a period of three days based on his consumption rate.

Only minutes later, a second vehicle approached the spot check. It was quickly determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol, and a second drinking and driving investigation commenced.

As a result, a Wasaga Beach resident has been criminally charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - BAC above 80

The driver was given a 90-day driver's licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Nov 29, 2022.

The OPP is committed to public safety and encourages anyone who suspects an impaired driver to call 9-1-1 immediately.
