SIU looking for witnesses after man injured in Barrie arrest

Special Investigations Unit says city police responded to area Barrie View Drive and Mapleview Drive West on Aug. 30 and there was an 'interaction' with the man

The province's Special Investigations Unit is looking into an incident involving Barrie police that happened at this south-end gas station.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking for witnesses after a man suffered a "serious injury" while being arrested by Barrie police last week. 

The SIU says the preliminary information suggests that at approximately 8:45 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, Barrie police officers were called to the area of Barrie View Drive and Mapleview Drive West in the city's south end for a man causing a disturbance. 

Officers located the 40-year-old man in the parking lot of the Shell gas station located at 86 Barrie View Dr.

The SIU says there was an "interaction" and officers arrested the man. 

The man was transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury, according to the SIU. However, no information was released about the nature of the man's injuries. 

Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
