Local police have released limited information about a new investigation launched by the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) into a Collingwood incident this week.
According to the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, officers were called to a Collingwood home on Oct. 15 for a disturbance.
"During the course of the investigation, an involved party suffered injuries, which led to the SIU invoking its mandate," states a news release from the local OPP.
The SIU is an independent government agency charged with investigating the conduct of enforcement officials in situations where a person has been seriously injured or died, or there are accusations of sexual assault. The SIU also investigates when a police officer discharges a firearm.
OPP did not provide any further details on the local incident or the nature of the person's injuries. The news release states there will be no further information offered by police because the matter is before the SIU.
More to come.
