CLEARVIEW TWP., SPRINGWATER TWP., WASAGA BEACH – Beginning July 20, 2020, members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) working on a night shift began proactively patrolling municipal, township, and county roads.
At 8:58 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 26, in Springwater Township, and charged a female driver for travelling 131 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
At 9:13 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 26, in Wasaga Beach, and charged a female driver for travelling 168 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone.
At 12:44 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on Sunnidale Road South, in Wasaga Beach, and charged a female driver for travelling 128 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
Two hours later, the same officer stopped a motorcycle on County Road 10, in Clearview Township, and charged a male driver for travelling 146 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
In all incidents, the vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days, and the drivers' licences were immediately suspended for seven days.
The Huronia West OPP is committed to serving our province by protecting its citizens, upholding the law and preserving public safety. Going above the speed limit increases your risk of a collision. Braking times and stopping distances are greatly reduced, thereby making it more difficult to stop when you need to. Adding in environmental factors such as weather, road conditions, other drivers or other unanticipated hazards can be a recipe for disaster.
Please do your part to keep the roads safe by obeying the posted speed limits.
