Quebec driver accused of racing, fleeing police in Wasaga Beach

WASAGA BEACH - Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid multiple charges involving a stunt driving investigation where the vehicle fled from police.

On Thursday Aug., 26, 2021, at approximately 12:50 a.m. officers were on general patrol in the area of River Road West within Wasaga Beach when they observed a vehicle which appeared to be travelling well above the posted speed limit. A radar measurement was obtained at 109 km/h in a 50 zone.

After an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle then fled from police, failing to stop. Shortly thereafter during patrols for the vehicle, it was spotted stopped in a live lane on Crossland Road within Springwater Twp. The vehicle had run out of gas.

As a result, a 30-year-old driver from Quebec, has been charged with the following:

  • Race a motor vehicle - Excessive speed
  • Fail to stop for police

 The driver was issued a 7-day licence suspension in Ontario and the vehicle was impounded for a period of 14 days.

The OPP targets speeders, racers/stunt drivers and other aggressive drivers through public education and robust enforcement. Racing, stunt driving, speeding, following too closely, unsafe lane changes and road rage are all forms of aggressive driving that place drivers, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians at risk.
