Police stop vehicle going 155 km/h near Nottawa

Police say a 28-year-old driver from Clearview Township also failed to stop for a stop sign

An officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment stopped a high speed vehicle travelling more than twice the speed limit on 33-34 Sideroad, near Nottawa.

On Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021 at 1:16 a.m., an officer out patrolling the Township of Clearview observed a vehicle that was travelling at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer captured a speed reading on this vehicle of 155 km/hr. The area is residential and has a posted 60 km/hr speed zone. The officer then observed the vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign at an intersection. Upon speaking with the driver an odour of alcohol was detected and a breath sample was taken from the driver.

The driver, a 28-year-old local male from Clearview Township has been charged with:

  • Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed
  • Disobey stop sign - fail to stop
  • Fail to have insurance card

The driver received an immediate 30-day driver's license suspension and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

OPP want to remind motorists that no amount of alcohol in your system when operating any vehicle is a safe amount. The consumption of alcohol affects our decision-making skills, judgement and reactionary times.
