Officers from the Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) covering Wasaga Beach, Springwater and Clearview Township, issued 41 charges while patrolling on ATVs this Thanksgiving weekend.

According to a news release from the OPP, the ATV patrols issued 41 charges, including 31 under the off-road vehicles act, 10 under the trespass to property act, and one under the liquor licence and control act.

Some of the ORVA (Off Road Vehicles Act) charges that officers laid were:

  • Fail to wear proper helmet
  • Fail to securely fasten chin strap
  • No insurance
  • No plate
  • Permit child under twelve to operate off-road vehicle

"OPP officers on patrol remind all off-road vehicle riders that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails," states the news release from Huronia West OPP. "Through community partnerships with off-road vehicle organizations such as the Ontario Federation of All-Terrain Vehicles and the Safe and Sober Awareness Committee, we strive to educate the public about safe off-road vehicle operation practices."

The OPP encourage off-road vehicle riders to use resources provided by the Ontario Federation of All-Terrain Vehicles here: Tips for the Riders | OFATV.
