OPP lay charges after pedestrian struck by vehicle's side mirror in TBM

A 44-year-old from Collingwood faces multiple charges stemming from the incident

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a motorist recently with a slew of driving offences after being called to a collision on the 12th Side Road in The Blue Mountains. 

The occurrence took place shortly before 5 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2021 when officers were contacted by a person who was reporting having been struck by the side mirror of a black pickup truck while walking on the 12th Side Road near Grey Road 19 in The Blue Mountains. 

The caller, who was still at the scene, did not suffer any injuries as a result of the incident and reported to police that the involved vehicle was last seen eastbound on Sixth Street towards Collingwood. 

An officer on patrols was on Sixth Street at the time and observed the involved vehicle and proceeded to conduct a vehicle stop where interactions with the driver found that he was under the influence of alcohol. As such he was arrested and taken to detachment for processing. 

Charged is Roch Duguay, 44 years-old, from Collingwood, he is charged with Criminal Code offences of:

  • Impaired driving,
  • Failure to stop after an accident; and
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was also charged under the Liquor Licence Act for Driving a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. 

He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Feb. 1 2022.
