A fire that engulfed storage units at Tire Guys this afternoon is being investigated as suspicious as the second fire in three days at the location.

Collingwood Fire Department Deputy Chief Stephen Emo confirmed the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating this afternoon's fire and he has notified the Ontario Fire Marshal's office and the ministry of the environment.

Collingwood Fire Department with aid from Wasaga Beach was called to Tire Guys on Beachwood Road for a fire at 3:47 p.m. on Nov. 13. They arrived to see flames coming from storage containers filled with tires. About 20 firefighters and three trucks from the Collingwood department battled the blaze, calling in aid from Wasaga Beach, which brought an aerial truck and crew of four firefighters.

Since it was tires burning, there was concern about run-off so firefighters put down some booms to absorb the water running away from the fire. Collingwood Public Works staff was also called in to assist in catching water run-off from the fire.

Emo said the fire was out by about 6 p.m.

Collingwood fire crews were called to the same location on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11) for the same type of fire, said Emo, noting the fires are possibly suspicious.
