OPP arrest Wasaga driver after RIDE roadside test

Officers from three area detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been working together in a Joint Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Program. Officers from Collingwood, Huronia West and Southern Georgian Bay detachments have been taking part in this initiative in various locations throughout the region. Officers stopped numerous vehicles yesterday in the area of Highway 26 in Wasaga Beach, resulting in one driver being apprehended for an alcohol-related offence.

On Dec. 15, 2021 just before 4:00 p.m., while officers were conducting RIDE, they stopped a vehicle and conducted a roadside test. As a result of the test, the driver was arrested and transported back to the Huronia West Detachment for further investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Timothy Tokarz, 55 years old, from Wasaga Beach, has been charged with:

  • Operate a motor vehicle with over 80mgs of alcohol

The accused received a 90-day driver's license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

In addition to this apprehension, one other driver was issued with a three-day suspension due to alcohol consumption.

Police remind drivers who plan to drink alcohol or consume drugs to plan ahead. Any amount of alcohol and/or drugs in your system can impact your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
