TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, CLEARVIEW & SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIPS – Since the start of the year, members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have responded to several requests for assistance from hikers who have become lost while exploring on area trails.

The OPP would like to remind those venturing out into the trails to practice safe hiking, such as:

  • Having a fully charged mobile phone.
  • Using a navigation app such as "what3words".
  • Packing water and food.
  • Telling a friend or a family member where you intend to go and how long you will be gone.
  • Equipping yourself according to weather conditions.
  • Avoiding hiking at night and in low light.
  • Staying on marked trails.
