Two people were arrested and charged as police investigated a report of a stolen tractor from a Meaford property.
Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police were called to a parking lot in Meaord on January 15 in the early morning hours for the reported theft of a John Deere tractor, which was taken between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The tractor was being used for snow removal.
At 5:36 a.m. on Jan. 15, police received a call from a Grey Highlands resident who had spotted the tractor and was following it. Police suggest it is safer to call the OPP at 1-888-310-112 to report the last known location and direction of travel rather than following a stolen vehicle.
Police did track down the stolen tractor thanks to the tip and arrested two people, a 29-year-old from Meaford and a 39-year-old from Owen Sound. According to the OPP the arrest took place "without incident."
Both the people arrested also face charges of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with an undertaking (29-year-old) or probation (39-year-old).
They will face those charges in court later.
