Area police have charged a Grey Highlands man with impaired driving after he went through a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check.

Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE check on Dec. 5 in the South Bruce Peninsula and arrested a 22-year-old from Grey Highlands at about 8:45 p.m.

The man was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on December 21, 2023.

The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season. During the campaign, the motoring public can expect to see an increased OPP presence as officers conduct RIDE initiatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the province.

If you see a suspected impaired driver, you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police, or your nearest police authority immediately by calling 9-1-1.
