Georgian Bluffs RIDE check leads to drug, weapons charges

GEORGIAN BLUFFS - On Dec. 2, 2021 at approximately 2 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Highway 6-21 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

A motor vehicle entered the RIDE program, and the driver was placed under arrest. The driver was then transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment. A passenger in the motor vehicle was also arrested.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged Robert Pointon, 42 years of age from Owen Sound, with the following offences:
    •    operation while impaired by drug
    •    possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
    •    failure to comply with a release order
    •    possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
    •    obstruct peace officer

Grey Bruce OPP have also charged Pauline Shearer, 41 years old from South Bruce Peninsula, with the following offences:
    •    possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
    •    fail to comply with probation order
    •    possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

Both parties were held for a bail hearing. They are scheduled to re-attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on Dec. 30, 2021.
