Reports of a driver travelling the wrong direction on a one-way road and swerving into oncoming traffic led police to stop and arrest a driver, who is now facing a list of impaired driving charges.

A news release issued by Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) noted the traffic complaint was called in at about 6:10 p.m. on Dec. 9. Officers located the vehicle referenced in the complaint and found the driver had two youths in the vehicle.

  • As a result of the traffic stop, a 34-year-old from Wasaga Beach was charged with:
  • Adult Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
  • Adult Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
  • Adult Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Adult Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container or Liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood in January 2023 to answer to the charges. Furthermore, their licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

In addition to reporting the arrest, the Huronia West OPP had this message for all drivers:

"Choosing to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol puts everyone at risk, including the occupants inside your vehicle. Driving conditions can change quickly anytime of year, however, the winter weather often poses very dangerous conditions. It is imperative that drivers are alert, focused and are in the position to get themselves and their occupants to their destination safely."
