Driver accused of sleeping behind the wheel charged with impaired

SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP - On Dec. 18, 2018 at approximately 6:15 a.m., members of the Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a motorist for drinking and driving offences after receiving a call for a suspicious vehicle.

Shortly after 6 a.m., on Dec. 18, 2018, officers were dispatched to the area of Black Creek Trail, north of Snow Valley Road in Springwater Township for a suspicious vehicle running and a person sleeping in the driver's seat. Police quickly attended the location and upon speaking to the driver it was determined that he was under the influence of alcohol which led to his arrest and transportation to the Huronia West detachment for processing.

Forty-eight-year-old Christopher Stapley of Barrie was charged with:
    •    CC 320.14(1)(a) - operation while impaired
    •    CC 320.14(1)(b) - blood alcohol concentration 80 or more
    •    CC 733.1(1) - fail to comply with probation order

He is to appear in Collingwood Court on the 8th of January 2019.
