Commercial vehicle inspections in Thornbury lead to 115 charges

Police and Ministry of Transportation officials conducted a commercial vehicle inspection blitz Wednesday in Thornbury.

Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement unit from Central Region and North East Region and in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario conducted commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety inspections in Thornbury yesterday.

A temporary inspection station was set up on King Street, where 61 inspections were conducted on CMVs and resulted in 115 charges being issued for various infractions relating to CMVs. Those inspections also led to 19 vehicles being taken out of service temporarily until repairs could be completed on scene. However, seven of those had their plates removed as a result of serious safety concerns observed by the inspectors.

In closing, it is important to note that the majority of CMVs inspected yesterday were compliant with regulations and safe to operate. OPP members and would like to thank those CMV operators and owners who help contribute to safety on our roads.
