Collingwood resident charged with impaired driving after traffic complaint

SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP - Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are dedicated to keeping the roads safe in Huronia West seven days a week, 365 days of the year.

On Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, just after 11 a.m., Huronia West officers responded to a traffic complaint for a possible impaired driver, called in by a concerned citizen. The officer located the vehicle in the area of Crossland Road and Horseshoe Valley Road. The officer conducted a traffic stop and was led into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, Joshaua Jamieson, a 32-year-old, from Collingwood has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Dec. 7, 2021, to answer to the charge. Their driver's licence was suspended for a period of 90 days and their vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

Also, on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021 in the evening hours, officers set up a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check in Springwater Township. In the time span of one hour and after checking only 10 cars, one driver was issued with a three-day drivers licence suspension for alcohol consumption, one driver was charged for driving under suspension and one driver was arrested for impaired driving.

As a result, Michael McIntosh, 65 years old of Elmvale, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Dec. 7, 2021 to answer to the charge. Their driver's licence was also suspended for a period of 90 days and their vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season. Huronia West OPP would like to remind all motorists that this year the OPP Festive RIDE Campaign runs from Nov. 18, 2021 to Jan. 2, 2022.

During the campaign, OPP officers will be highly visible as they conduct RIDE initiatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the province.

Ontario citizens are reminded to do their part during the campaign by never driving after consuming alcohol or drugs and never letting anyone else drive if you know or suspect that they have consumed alcohol or drugs.  

If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may be saving lives.
