Collingwood man faces drug charges after pedestrian struck

WASAGA BEACH – On April 23, 2020, at 4:49 p.m., the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Downer Crescent and Fairway Crescent, in the Town of the Wasaga Beach.

Officers attended the scene and located a female pedestrian with minor injuries. The pedestrian was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Officers also located a male driver at the scene. Police investigation revealed the driver did not have a valid driver's licence and appeared to be under the influence of a drug. A Drug Recognition Evaluation was later completed. A small quantity of suspected cocaine was also found at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, Bradley Elliot, 35 years of age, of Collingwood, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following offences: 

  • Dangerous operation - Contrary to Section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code  
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs - Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code 
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order - Contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - Contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available - Contrary to Section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017 
  • Driving while under suspension - Contrary to Section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance - Contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused has since been released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on July 7, 2020.
