Collingwood man charged following traffic stop

During this stop, it was found that the plates currently attached to the vehicle were reported stolen which led to the arrest of the male driver

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police charged a motorist overnight with numerous offences as a result of a traffic stop in Collingwood.

On Nov. 8 2018 shortly before 9 p.m, an officer on patrols conducted a vehicle stop on Peel Street near McKean Crescent in Collingwood in relation to a Highway Traffic Act violation.

During this stop, it was found that the plates currently attached to the vehicle were reported stolen which led to the arrest of the male driver. Further investigation led officers to discover another set of stolen Ontario licence plates located in the vehicle.

As well, upon arresting the male, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis.

The 18-year-old motorist from Collingwood was charged with Cannabis Act (Ontario) offences of person under 19 years - possess cannabis and drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.

As well he was charged with numerous HTA offences including failing to apply for permit on becoming owner, use plates not authorized, disobey stop sign - fail to stop, drive a motor vehicle - no license, novice driver - blood alcohol content above zero and drive motor vehicle - no permit.

He was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

And was charged with two counts of Criminal Code offences of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Dec. 4, 2018.
