Collingwood driver charged in Wasaga Beach crash

21-year-old faces impaired, vehicle theft, assault charges

WASAGA BEACH - Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid multiple charges after responding to a vehicle crashing into a building within the Town of Wasaga Beach.

On Sunday May, 29, 2022 at approximately 6 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Mosley Street involving a vehicle crashing into a local business. Witnesses on scene described the driver fleeing the area on foot after the collision.

With the assistance numerous responding officers along with the Central Region Canine Unit, the driver was located shortly thereafter and taken into police custody.

As a result, Madelaine Stephenson, 21 years old of Collingwood, has been charged with the following:
    •    Operation while impaired
    •    Operation while impaired - BAC 80 plus
    •    Dangerous operation
    •    Theft of motor vehicle over $5,000
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
    •    Assault with intent to resist arrest x2
    •    Driving while under suspension
    •    Fail to remain

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on June 28, 2022.
