Area OPP issue almost 400 charges for speeding, etc over weekend

Huronia West OPP focused long-weekend enforcement on the 'big four,' speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and lack of seatbelt use

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were busy patrolling, conducting enforcement, and educating over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Between Friday, Oct. 6 and Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, members from the Huronia West OPP laid a total of 390 traffic-related charges. Officers conducted traffic enforcement with a focus on the "Big Four" which include impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and lack of seatbelt use. Additionally, officers performed several R.I.D.E. spot checks throughout the area.

The following list includes some of the charges laid over the long weekend:

  • Speeding - 202 charges
  • Seatbelt - 9 charges
  • Distracted Driving - 5 charges
  • Impaired Driving - 4 charges
  • Stunt Driving - 3 charges
  • Other - 121 charges

The Huronia West OPP would like to thank all of the community members who obey the laws and work with the police and other emergency responders to help keep the roads, trails, and waterways safe.
