Adult dies after jumping in water to save teens swept off Kincardine pier

OPP report the teens made it back to shore, the person who tried to help them drowned

On Sept. 3, 2020, at 8:01 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of two teens being swept off the pier by a large wave at the main beach in Kincardine. Officers attended with members of the Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services and Bruce County paramedics to find the teens had returned to shore.

An adult that had jumped in to help the teens was recovered, unresponsive, from the water. They were taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Their name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The south pier has been closed in the interest of public safety. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area until it re-opens.
