A 21-year-old is facing arson charges for nine different fires in Meaford between 2021 and 2022.

A Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson confirmed none of the nine fires that are part of the investigation were structure fires.

"They were a series of nine incidents where small fires were intentionally lit and controlled in a short period of time," stated Const. Nick Wilson in an email to CollingwoodToday. "There's no evidence to support there was a threat to public safety, but rather the fires were lit to damage property."

Detectives from the Grey Bruce OPP major crimes unit have been investigating the series of fires that took place during 2021 and 2022 within the municipality of Meaford.

Grey Bruce OPP confirmed they arrested the Meaford resident on Feb. 3.

The accused faces nine counts of arson - damage to property.

The charges have not been proven in court, and the accused is awaiting a bail hearing in Owen Sound.
