19-year-old faces impaired, stunt driving charges in Wasaga Beach

Police say the Burlington resident was driving 'well over' the 50km/h speed limit

Samuel Maclean, 19 years, of Burlington was operating his Audi well above the 50 km/hr speed zone on Sandy Coast Circle, Wasaga Beach at 2:29 a.m. Sept. 26, 2021 when the vehicle was spotted by a uniform officer of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The officer using investigative skills and perseverance was able to locate and speak with the driver who had fled the scene and entered into a drinking and driving investigation.

The resulting investigation of the driver and vehicle has lead up to the following charges being issued by the investigating officer

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Flight from peace officer

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

  • Race a motor vehicle-Stunt
  • Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero

Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

Contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Nov. 2, 2021.

In addition, the Audi was impounded for seven days along with receiving an instant 90 day driver's licence suspension as per the conditions set out in the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS).
