Linda Murphy hiked 3,000 kilometres along the Pacific Crest Trail and she’s lived to tell the tale.
In fact, she’ll be telling her story next weekend at Trinity United Church during a special event open to the public.
In March 2019, the 57-year-old packed a bag weighing approximately 36 pounds and took off on the adventure — and challenge — of a lifetime. Her plan was to thru-hike the 4,265-kilometre Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), alone, and she had six months to do it.
The PCT runs from Mexico to Canada. It begins in Campo, a small town on the United States-Mexico border, and passes through California, Oregon and Washington, before reaching its northern terminus at the United States-Canada border in Manning Park, British Columbia.
Murphy completed the trek solo and travelled 3,000 kilometres, while also raising $32,000 for My Friend’s House women’s shelter in Collingwood.
She will be telling her story at Trinity United Church (140 Maple Street) on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. Refreshments will follow.
