The former Goodyear building has been demolished.

Before the former Goodyear plant was demolished, the Town of Collingwood issued an order to secure it and revoked a 2018 demolition permit.

Collingwood's Chief Building Official said the town received complaints people were entering the vacant building at 101 Mountain Road. As a result, the town issued an order for the building to be secured.

Miller said the building owner re-applied for a demolition permit and Miller issued a new permit on Nov. 17, 2020. Demolition began this month.

"The demolition was supervised by a professional engineer and hazardous materials were removed in accordance with the Ministry of Environment decommissioning requirements," said Miller in an email.

There were hazardous materials – specifically polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) – on-site as recently as 2016. Eventually, the PCBs were removed and disposed of.

According to the Town of Collingwood, there are no planning applications for 101 Mountain Road.
