The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has declared an outbreak at a third Barrie long-term care facility this weekend.

Owen Hill Care Community, located on Owen Street near downtown Barrie, is now in a COVID-19 outbreak.

An outbreak is declared as soon as there is a single case confirmed in a staff or resident. The health unit has announced it as an outbreak, but provided no further details on its website yet.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care has the 57-bed facility listed on it its report posted to Ontario Public Health's website this morning. According to the data reported there, there are no cases confirmed in residents and "fewer than five" cases reported in staff. The data reported by the Ministry of Long-Term care uses "fewer than five" for any number of cases from one to four.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit's medical officer of health is scheduled to deliver an update to the media via Facebook Live on Monday at 12:30 p.m. and will likely address the outbreak at that time.

Previously, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirmed outbreaks two Barrie long-term care homes: IOOF (182 beds) and at Woods Park (123 beds). There is one staff member at IOOF who is positive, and two staff members positive from Woods Park.

At Bradford Valley Care Community in Bradford (246 beds) there have been 20 resident cases, seven of whom have died, and 10 staff cases.

Another long-term care centre outbreak in the county – at Spencer House in Orillia – has already been declared resolved. The health unit reported a single staff case associated with that outbreak, and no other cases were discovered.
