A group of area realtors set a new record this year, but not in home sales.

The Southern Georgian Bay Association of Realtors (SGBAR) and Brokerages donated more than $17,000 to provide 853 turkeys for families in need.

According to a news release from SGBAR the group partners with local grocers to purchase turkey vouchers and provides those vouchers to local charitable organizations. In Collingwood, the vouchers purchased by SGBAR members were given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The vouchers are then distributed in Christmas hampers in the local communities.

This year the SGBAR donations are higher than ever before. The news release notes the group stepped up because they saw a greater need than ever during this difficult year.

The Southern Georgian Bay Association of Realtors represents over 600 realtors registered with its member offices. The geographical area served by the association includes the Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene, the Townships of Severn, Tay, Tiny and part of Georgian Bay Township; Wasaga Beach, Clearview Township, Collingwood, The Blue Mountains and portions of the Municipality of Meaford and Grey Highlands.
