Public Health Ontario has reported 1,890 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 21).
Today's report includes 2,689 recoveries and 27 new deaths.
The deaths reported today include two people between 20 and 39 years old, seven people between 40 and 59 years old, 10 people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people over 79 years old.
Since yesterday, the province has reported 119 new hospitalizations and 17 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The May 21 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 22,200 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 23,026 reported yesterday.
- 1,265 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,320 reported yesterday.
- There are 715 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 721 yesterday) and 510 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 493 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 37,126 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 5.4 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 19,891 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.9 million tests have been completed.
- Of the new cases reported today, 469 are from Toronto, 468 cases are from Peel, 165 are from York Region, and 43 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Today's cases include 397 individuals aged 19 and under, 801 people between 20 and 39 years old, 468 people between 40 and 59 years old, 184 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 41 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 158,524 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 20, which is up from 144,986 administered on May 19.
- As of 6 p.m. on May 20, the province reported 7,735,148 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 495, 757 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 518,980 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 488,201 recoveries and 8,579 deaths, of which 3,945 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,491.4 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 103.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 19.8 per cent from last week (May 5 to May 11).
Simcoe-Muskoka
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 62 new COVID cases in the region.
There are 751 active, lab-confirmed cases in Simcoe County and Muskoka District.
The health unit has reported 4,303 variant cases confirmed to date; 505 of those cases still active.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,554 cases of COVID-19 with 10,109 of those cases recovered and 242 cases ending in death.
The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka is 58.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 13.5 per cent compared to last week.
