Starting Nov. 1, most Collingwood residents will be rolling their new garbage carts to the curb on a new garbage day.

While waste collection has typically occurred in town on Mondays, it's being switched to Wednesdays as part of the County of Simcoe's curbside collection changeover.

Homes located north of Highway 26, First Street, and Huron Street (along the waterfront) will still be on the Monday garbage collection schedule.

"The needs of our diverse and growing communities have been taken into consideration, with many seasonal areas being prioritized for collection early in the week, and many larger downtown business districts scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays to avoid extended set-out periods," stated a news release from the county.

New recycle, garbage, and organic waste carts have been delivered to Collingwood homes with instructions to store the new bins until the Nov. 1 start date.

The county has delivered about 170,000 carts to homes in the region (Barrie and Orillia are excepted because they have their own collection service). Anyone who has not received the new carts by Oct. 22 should email [email protected] or call 1-800-263-3199.

The first collection day under the new system will be Nov. 3 (Nov. 1 for waterfront residences). All residents are supposed to have their recycling and organic waste on the curb by 7 a.m. that day. The following week (Nov. 8 and 10) will be for garbage and organic waste collection.

Under the new schedule, Fridays are reserved for any areas missed because of weather or service impacts.

For more information on the new waste carts and changes to the collection schedule, visit the County of Simcoe website here.
