Kinsmen spread kindness on Family Day weekend

Celebrating Kin Kindness Day, local service club members visited first responders at work to thank them for their contributions

Members of the Collingwood and District Kinsmen Club went on a tour of kindness to mark a tradition for their national service organization.

Feb. 18 was Kin Kindness Day, which the local club marked by visiting first responders to say thank you.

Collingwood club members stopped by the fire department, police station, paramedic station and the hospital to thank first responders for their work through the pandemic and for all they do in the community.

"We thank them for being there when we need them for our medical care and taking special care of our well-being," said Glen Card, a member of the local club.

To mark the occasion, the Kinsmen Club raised a flag at the library last week, and the town hall was lit up red in celebration.

Twice a year, the Collingwood and District Kinsmen Club members clean up the sides of High Street from Sixth St. to Poplar Sideroad, also in the spirit of giving back to the community.

On Feb. 20, Kin Canada celebrated the 103rd anniversary of the first-ever Kinsmen meeting led by Hal Rogers in Hamilton. The day is known as founder's day.
